It's not often that a man the size of Duncan Bell has to go grovelling to anyone, but rugby players should know better than to annoy their fans.

The Bath and England prop made some disparaging remarks about supporters who have been booing the team in an interview with the Bath Chronicle, although he now says his view was misrepresented.

It's not that Bell was misquoted, he just reckons what he said came across the wrong way - hence the apology to the offended Rec faithful.

"I am a little annoyed with myself for being drawn into this topic and really should have known better," he said.

The problem arose after the player suggested the team plays for themselves and not the fans who jeer them, but he clarified by adding that it's about being focused on winning games and not worrying about the crowd.

Bath have been having a torrid time of late and are just one place off the foot of the Guinness Premiership table.
