New measures to make Guinness Premiership more exciting

Kicking will be curbed under new measures

The league has been accused of lacking fizz in recent seasons, with aerial kicking contests increasingly becoming part and parcel of the action, a factor which has forced Premier Rugby to step up and implement new rules.
Referees will be asked to clamp down on "ball killers" in a move similar to the changes made to this year's Super 14 competition - something which has been welcomed wholeheartedly south of the Equator.
Mark McCafferty, Premier Rugby's chief executive, commented: "There was a determination that we couldn't let things go on as they were."
He added that there was "significant concerns" that needed to be addressed, but the new measures may be a "seminal moment" for the league.
"For the good of the game we can't have the premier club competition churning out [rugby] which was rightly receiving poor comments," McCafferty said.
