With Biarritz stuttering to a fortunate win against the Ospreys on Saturday, it appears that Munster are in the driving seat to sail through to the Heineken Cup final.

Munster downed Northampton in a 33-19 win at Thomond Park on Saturday to set up a semi final meeting with the French club at San Sebastian.

Former All Black Doug Howlett scored two crucial tries to give Munster some breathing space and with Paul Warrick and Jean de Villiers also chipping in with tries, Munster were too hot for Northampton.

Biarritz overcome Ospreys with a 29-28 win although controversy raged when Ospreys fly half Dan Biggar lined up a drop goal in the final minutes only for Dimitri Yachvilli to deliberately knock the ball on, but the referee failed to give the penalty.

The other semi final will be contested by current holders Leinster & Toulouse with the Irish side triumphing 29-28 against Clermont Auvergne on Friday evening and Toulouse thrashing their french counterparts Stade Francais 42-16.
