That's "Sir" Geech now

Arise, Sir Geech
Arise, Sir Geech

Ian McGeechan - a true legend of the Lions, of rugby itself and now a knight of the realm to boot.

The coach who led the Lions on four occasions, as well as playing on two tours, lest we forget, has received recognition from the Queen.

He may have missed out on repeating the famous 1997 series victory over the Springboks, but this year's trip to South Africa saw faith in the concept truly restored and Sir Ian had a huge role to play in that.

And while he's ruled himself out of future tours, it seems the 63-year-old isn't quite done with our great sport, saying: "My passion for rugby and for sporting excellence remains undimmed," despite currently taking a break.

He joins the likes of actor Patrick Stewart on the 2010 New Year Honours List and one fan commenting on Planet Ruby summed up their reaction by simply stating: "Arise Sir Geech - much more deserved than Sir Clive!"ADNFCR-2652-ID-19535172-ADNFCR
