Edinburgh sensation Tim Visser has been urged to wait until 2012 and pledge his international allegiance to Scotland.

The Dutchman will qualify to play for Scotland under residency rules in two years time and former Netherlands international Michiel Smith has advised him to wait it out in order to give him the best chance of having a fruitful career on the international stage.

Smith now lives in Edinburgh himself and told the Scotsman that Visser, who will be 24 in 2010, can excel on the world stage, as evidenced by his recent hat-trick of tries against Ospreys in the Magners League.

"I think Tim would actually be making a greater contribution to Dutch rugby by qualifying for Scotland and getting selected to play in the Six Nations rather than returning home for caps," Smith said.

Visser's display against Ospreys made many people sit up and take notice at the weekend, including coach Sean Holley, who said the Edinburgh victory and bonus point were both well deserved after a hard-fought contest.
