Gareth Thomas, the Wales and British Lions star who revealed he was gay before Christmas, has held a 'coming out' party to celebrate his sexuality.

The utility player shocked the rugby world late last year when he became the first active rugby player to reveal he was gay and has now held a party at the London cocktail bar Movida.

"Everybody here tonight is celebrating that the world is changing. We are here to send the message that it's OK to be a sportsman and it is also OK to be gay," he told the Independent.

Thomas has said his revelation will hopefully lead to more young rugby players revealing they are gay without fearing that they have to keep it from their friends and fellow players.

The party was co-hosted by gay magazine Attitude and editor Matthew Todd said he hopes that Thomas' admission will lead to sportsmen from other professions coming out.
