Leinster boss suggests winning is all that matters

A fear of losing has been blamed in recent months for the lack of running play in today's rugby, typified by the coma-inducing kickfests that have been this year's matches between England and Argentina.

So neutrals hoping for an entertaining game between Leinster and Scarlets over the weekend may be disappointed to hear the coach for the former say all he cares about is leaving Llanelli with maximum points.

"As far as I am concerned the only thing that matters is that on Saturday we perform at a level to get the win," Michael Cheika said.

Of course, Leinster are one of the more attacking sides in the Heineken Cup, and Scarlets are fully capable of producing some on-pitch excitement too, so such an attitude doesn't necessarily mean we're heading for 80 minutes of boredom.

But it does emphasise the point many have been making - providing a compelling spectacle for fans to watch really isn't a priority for a lot of clubs these days.ADNFCR-2652-ID-19502921-ADNFCR
