The New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) received a massive boost when it was revealed that they had received 25,000 ticket applications for the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

With around 500 days to go until the tournament, the news is an encouraging start for the Kiwi's who had received 50,000 pre-registrations for ticket applications.

This indication of support for the tournament has already seen a financial commitment of more revenue for the competition than the previosu biggest event held in New Zealand, the 2005 British & Irish Lions tour.

Tournament organiser Martin Snedden commented "This is a global event and the rest of the world is certainly waking up to the fact that a World Cup in a country so passionate about the game will be a special time in this country."

"It's really important that Kiwis avoid being disappointed and take advantage of this phase of ticketing if they are going to secure the seats they want at this tournament"
