England's aim of defeating Scotland at Murrayfield has been dealt a blow after Simon Shaw was ruled out of the match.

The 36-year-old lock has been suffering from a shoulder injury suffered in the opening minutes of the recent game against Ireland and now Martin Johnson has confirmed that the England man will not be fit to make the trip to Edinburgh.

Stade Francais lock Tom Palmer has now been called into the squad along with four other replacements.

Among those is Mike Tindall, who makes his return after getting the better of a hamstring injury, while Gloucester full-back Olly Morgan is in as cover for the injured Delon Armitage.

In addition, Leeds flanker Hendre Fourie has received his first senior call-up in place of Dan Ward-Smith and Northampton fly-half Shane Geraghty makes the squad with doubts lingering over Toby Flood's fitness.

James Haskell has also expressed his desire to start the game against Scotland on Saturday, a situation which will be closely monitored by Stade Francais considering the recent furore over his contract situation.
