Australia win must spur on Scotland

Scotland will look to build on the Australia win

Last autumn's rare win over Australia must act as a catalyst for Scotland's 2010 campaign rather than the pinnacle of the 2009 season, one source has claimed.

Mitch Phillips, writing for Reuters, said that so often Scotland appear to be upping their game ahead of the Six Nations, only to fail to deliver when the big matches come around.

He said the key is for new coach and former England boss Andy Robinson to instil a mental determination which enables them to win more than one match in the tournament - a feat only achieved once in the last six years.

"Look at the Australia game: the courage, the passion, the understanding of what it is to put on the blue shirt - incredible, right up there with any of the teams I've worked with," Robinson said.

Scotland will aim for another impressive showing in the Murrayfield Calcutta Cup match - a fixture where they have had the edge for the last two meetings in Edinburgh - but the priority may lie with beating France in the opening game for only the second time since the Six Nations' inception.
