Scotland will attempt to plug the gap left by Thom Evans with Simon Danielli for this weekend's Six Nations clash against Italy.

With the entire back three crocked for the foreseeable future, Andy Robinson has placed his hopes on the unpredictable Danielli, who has had a mixed season with Ulster but received the backing of Scott Hastings.

"Simon Danielli has had a very strong season. He's scored some good tries for Ulster. He blows hot and cold at times but it will be no surprise if he finds his way in," he told the Scotsman.

Hastings backed Danielli to "come out of the shadow" in Rome as his side attempts to deliver a performance akin to the first hour against Wales in Cardiff.

Meanwhile, Robinson has said that his side must now attempt to respond to the negativity following the Wales match, when the side threw away a lead in the dying seconds thanks to poor discipline.
