Warren Gatland has called up Gareth Delve for the game against Ireland as doubts linger over the fitness of Ryan Jones.

The decision was made by Gatland and Shaun Edwards after Jones' recovery from a calf injury took longer than expected, but even if he is fit to face Ireland it is likely he will be switched to blindside flanker, with Gareth Delve coming in at number 8.

Kicking guru Neil Jenkins said the decision to bring in Delve was a wise one but defended claims from the player that he has not had much contact with Gatland, Edwards or the rest of the management team.

"I don't think we need to phone players up every minute, every day. It's just one of those things. Look, he's playing well, he's in the squad. I think he will be pleased with that," Jenkins said.

The call comes after Delve revealed that he will make the switch to the revamped Super 15 competition next season with new outfit Melbourne.
