Six Nations > Wales

For the first time in the tournament's history, the 2011 Six Nations will open on a Friday night with the selected match being Wales v England at the Millennium Stadium.

The game is scehduled to take place on the 4th February 2011 in Cardiff and is the first time that an opening fixture will be held on a friday night.

The change is due to the outstanding performance of the television viewing figures for the games in Paris and Cardiff over the last two years.  With around 10 million viewers for the latest match in Cardiff this year, the Six Nations comittee are seeing great value in the Friday night fixtures.

The proposals will not go down well with the fans, with many stating that the matches are difficult to travel to, particularly if you are travelling as an away fan.

The organisers will also continue to host Six Nations games on a Sunday with three matches due to take place on Sundays in 2011.
