Warren Gatland has made an example of Andy Powell after dropping him from the 35-man Wales Six Nations squad.

Powell is likely to play no more part in this season's tournament after Gatland swung the axe following the flanker's over-eager celebrations on Saturday night after the stunning comeback win over Scotland.

The 28-year-old Cardiff Blues ace and another man were found driving a golf buggy at a service station off the M4 in the early hours of the morning and charged with drink driving.

Alan Phillips, the Wales team manager, said: "This kind of behaviour cannot be tolerated in a professional, elite sporting environment and we have acted quickly and incisively in order to leave no ambiguity over the dim view we take of this situation."

Meanwhile, Jamie Roberts has called for an altogether more sober performance in the next Wales game against France if the team is to have any hope of usurping the Six Nations champions-elect.
