Lote Tuqiri may get thrown in at the deep end as he embarks on his Leicester Tigers career, as the winger looks set to appear from the bench against South Africa on Friday.

The saga of the Australian winger came to a close this week, albeit temporarily.

Having had his contract with the Australian Rugby Union cancelled - the details of that decision not being disclosed for legal reasons - he had been playing for West Harbour and was being linked with a move to the Ospreys.

Speculation is rife that Tuqiri will opt for a switch back to rugby league next year, but he signed for the Tigers on Monday and could be involved when the Springboks get their tour underway.

Commenting on that prospect, he told the BBC: "I thought I'd got away from the South Africans, but first game back and they stick me up against the world champions."
