Stirling Mortlock has confirmed speculation about a move to new Super 14 outfit Melbourne by officially committing to join the Rebels from Brumbies next season.

The former Australia captain has inked a three-year deal with the new boys and will join players including Danny Cipriani in 2011 as the Rebels look to make an immediate impact on the competition.

Rebels coach Rod Macqueen described the capture of Mortlock as a great acquisition and said he will help to bolster a side which already includes players with international pedigree, such as Welshman Gareth Delve, who also signed this week.

"The opportunity to play out his career in Melbourne and not overseas is great for both Australian rugby and Stirling as he helps us build the foundations of the new club," Macqueen said.

Mortlock's ability in Super 14 is undisputed, having become the first player in the history of the competition to score 1,000 points earlier in the season.
