Wasps performance 'not exactly intense'

Joe Worsley has made perhaps the biggest understatement of the year with his assessment of London Wasps' game against Leeds Carnegie this weekend.

"This wasn't exactly similar to an international in terms of intensity," the flanker said.

He was referring to the fact that he is not yet ready to return to the England fold, despite lasting all 80 minutes of the dull encounter.

Such was the home side's display at Adams Park on Sunday that the biggest cheer actually came for the return of Worsley's Wasps teammate Simon Shaw, who had not played since the Lions tour of South Africa.

But even the introduction of Shaw early in the second half was not enough to prevent Leeds from gaining their first ever victory over the hosts - and hand Wasps the unfortunate distinction of being the first side to lose to the club propping up the bottom of the Guinness Premiership table.
