Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) have asked to be bailed out by the sport's governing body in Australia.

Chief executive Jim Carmichael has revealed that the club has requested a cash bail-out from the ARU in order to resolve financial issues.

"We are seeking ARU assistance and are working through the possibilities. At this stage we are still to reach a resolution. The difficult challenges faced by Queensland Rugby have been growing over a number of years," he told the local Associated Press.

Carmichael added that the QRU is working with the ARU to develop both, short-term and long-term solutions to the problems, however, QRU chairman Rod McCall said the ARU will not take over the running of the organisation, as it did with New South Wales in 2000.

Meanwhile, one player that Reds are likely to face in the coming weeks is Danie Rossouw, after he and springbok partner Pierre Spies were cleared to play for Bulls in their away legs later this month.
