John Smit will become the first South African to play 100 games for a Super 14 team on Friday (February 19th).

The Springbok captain will start for Sharks for the 100th time when the side host the Cheetahs in the second round of the competition and coach John Plumtree said it is a testament to the player's training methods that he has lasted so long.

"It is a lovely milestone for him. We are just proud of John and what he has achieved. As a team we love him as our captain and as a player playing for us," he said.

Smit added that one of the things that has made his stay so worthwhile is that the players are "a good bunch of guys".

Meanwhile, Plumtree has tinkered his starting line-up for the Cheetahs game, with Adi Jacobs starting for Andries Strauss, while Ruan Pienaar has been promoted from the bench to replace Monty Dumond at fly-half.
