Berrick Barnes has signed a one-year contract extension with New South Wales which will see him remain at the Waratahs until the end of the 2011 season.

Barnes announced that he will compete for the Waratahs in the first season of the expanded Super 15 competition, remaining in the role of fly-half.

He had originally signed with the Australian Rugby Union through to the World Cup next year but his Waratahs contract only took him until the end of the 2010 season, with an option for a further year.

After much deliberation, the former Queensland man made up his mind, adding: "You weigh up everything that's put in front of you and in the end I know it's definitely the right decision to stay at the Tahs."

Sharks coach John Plumtree has continued to fuel the debate following last weekend's defeat against Waratahs, stating that a few decisions, including the controversial penalty try that never was, should have gone the other way.
